Microsoft Launches Hybrid Intelligence for Windows and Copilot

Microsoft integrated cloud and local AI into Windows to enable Copilot to manage local files and execute system-wide actions.

Microsoft unveiled a series of updates to the Windows operating system, transforming it into a hybrid intelligence system that integrates cloud-based AI with local capabilities. This revamp incorporates AI agents directly into the software to ensure the operating system remains central to the tech industry.

A key component is the reimagined Copilot AI app, which can now run tasks natively on the PC without cloud access to increase speed and reduce costs. During a demonstration, Jacob Andreou showed the tool searching folders for tax documents, renaming them, zipping them into a folder, and drafting an email to an accountant. These features are expected to roll out over the next few months.

To support these AI workloads, the company introduced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a high-end device for developers and creators featuring an Nvidia RTX Spark superchip. The laptop is priced at $2,599 and will be available starting October 16. Additionally, Microsoft is launching a new Windows search experience for Windows 11 PCs this fall, allowing users to perform quick actions like adjusting microphone volume or enabling dark mode directly from the search bar.
