GoodRx CEO Urges Congress to Pass Health Care Reforms
Wendy Barnes of GoodRx is advocating for federal reforms to reward consumers who seek lower-cost prescriptions and modernize tax-advantaged health accounts.
Wendy Barnes, CEO of GoodRx, is calling for federal health care reforms designed to reward consumers who actively seek lower-cost care and prescriptions. Barnes is specifically advocating for the passage of the Every Dollar Counts Act, a bill introduced by Representative Greg Murphy.
The proposed legislation would require that out-of-pocket spending on covered prescription drugs count toward a consumer's deductible and annual maximum, regardless of the purchase location. Barnes argues that this change would align insurance rules with actual consumer behavior.
Beyond the Every Dollar Counts Act, Barnes is urging Congress to modernize Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). She proposes allowing pre-tax dollars to be used for health care memberships that offer virtual visits and discounted prescriptions. These efforts aim to update technical rules without replacing the current insurance system or establishing new government programs.
