UAE and Azerbaijan Expand Strategic Ties Through High-Level Diplomacy

The United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan significantly expanded their strategic partnership on September 14, 2026, through a series of high-level diplomatic exchanges. National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Azerbaijan to meet with President Ilham Aliyev, resulting in several agreements focused on energy, mining, and technology. Key deals included renewable energy projects via Masdar, mineral exploration in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and a memorandum with G42 Holding Ltd to develop artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure.

Simultaneously, President Ilham Aliyev focused on Islamic and regional solidarity, receiving Mohamed Abdelsalam of the Muslim Council of Elders in Baku and meeting with a Turkish delegation led by Burhanettin Duran to coordinate public diplomacy and combat disinformation. Aliyev also accepted the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity during these sessions.

In Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conducted separate diplomatic tracks. He received Albanian President Bajram Begaj, who awarded him the Grand Star of the Supreme Order of the Eagle, and later met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa. The meeting with Al-Sharaa focused on Syria's economic recovery and development, coinciding with the 24th Arab Media Summit in Dubai. Additionally, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss regional security and stability.
