Ademola Adeleke Launches Re-election Campaign Amid Party Eligibility Dispute

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke launched his re-election bid under the Accord Party while the All Progressives Congress challenged his eligibility based on a court ruling.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke officially launched his re-election campaign for the August 15, 2026, governorship poll during a rally in Osogbo. During the event, Adeleke received the party flag from Accord Party national chairman Maxwell Mgbudem and welcomed defectors from the All Progressives Congress, including supporters of Iyiola Omisore.

Adeleke cited his administration's record on school rehabilitation and debt repayment as key pillars of his campaign. However, the All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council challenged his eligibility to run. The APC claims a Federal High Court judgment derecognizing the Accord Party, alongside internal leadership disputes, may prevent the governor from appearing on the ballot.

In addition to the legal challenge, the APC accused the governor of mismanaging public resources, specifically pointing to the Ede Airport project and the alleged diversion of a federal grant intended for buses. Despite these accusations, Adeleke maintained that the Accord Party would be on the ballot and that he would be re-elected.
