Meta AI Agent Muse Shifts Shopping From Amazon to Shopify
Meta's AI agent Muse is diverting consumer spending from Amazon toward Shopify merchants after Amazon blocked the agent from placing orders.
Meta Platforms Incorporated developed the AI agent Muse to handle internet errands and shopping, a tool that is now shifting consumer habits away from Amazon. Users are increasingly utilizing Muse to find and purchase niche or hard-to-find products from direct-to-consumer brands.
This shift follows a decision by Amazon to block Muse from placing orders, citing concerns over data scraping and the storage of sensitive customer credentials. In response to the evolving landscape, Shopify partnered with Meta to allow Muse users to complete checkouts at Shopify merchants using Shop Pay.
Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke stated that other users are reporting similar experiences of moving their business away from Amazon. Leif Abraham, co-CEO of Public, noted he has made numerous purchases through the agent that previously would have gone to Amazon. While Muse has seen early success on App Store charts, AI agent shopping has not yet reached widespread adoption among the general public.
