Russian Drone Strike Hits Kyiv Nuclear Research Institute
The Russian military launched a drone strike on a nuclear research institute in Kyiv, causing a fire but leaving the onsite research reactor undamaged.
The Military of Russia launched a drone strike on the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv on the night of September 30. The attack ignited a fire on the institute's premises, which emergency services subsequently extinguished.
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine conducted an assessment of the site and confirmed that the VVR-M research reactor and its critical safety systems remained undamaged. Officials further reported that no changes in the radiation background were recorded following the strike.
