Yemeni Government Seizes Huwayshian Mountains in Dawn of Yemen Operation
The Government of Yemen recaptured strategic heights in Al-Jawf and repelled attacks in Taiz, while Houthi forces seized a castle in Lahj.
The Government of Yemen launched Operation Dawn of Yemen, successfully seizing full control of the strategic Huwayshian mountain range in Al-Jawf Governorate. The operation, which culminated on October 31, involved intense clashes east of the provincial capital, Al-Hazm. Supported by the Saudi-led Coalition, government troops secured the highest peaks and captured weapons and ammunition depots, resulting in significant equipment losses for Houthi forces.
While government forces repelled Houthi attacks on the Al-Aqrud front near the besieged city of Taiz, the Houthi group made gains in northern Lahj governorate. Houthi forces captured the historic Al-Maqatirah Castle and positions overlooking the Hayjat Al-Abd mountain pass, threatening critical routes connecting Taiz to southern Yemen.
The Saudi-led Coalition conducted targeted airstrikes against Houthi assets in Al-Jawf, Dhamar, and Hodeidah to neutralize armored units and vehicles. This escalation has worsened a humanitarian crisis, with the International Organization for Migration reporting that over 300,000 people have fled western Yemen. In Taiz, Governor Nabil Shamsan reported that 120 health centers have ceased operations due to the ongoing siege and aid shortages.
