India Negotiates Trade Pacts Covering 15 Trillion USD

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that India is negotiating free trade agreements with eight to nine additional countries or groups of nations. These pending pacts represent approximately USD 15 trillion in GDP and are intended to position India as a trusted partner in global value chains.

Speaking to business representatives in Tokyo, Goyal stated that once these negotiations conclude, India's free trade agreements will cover roughly 75% of global trade. He noted that India has signed nine agreements over the last four years covering USD 60 trillion in GDP. When combined with existing pacts with South Korea, Japan, and the ASEAN region, India currently has preferential market access to USD 70 trillion of the global economy.

Leading a delegation of more than 200 representatives to Japan, Goyal called for more balanced trade between the two nations. He specifically highlighted investment opportunities in manufacturing, data centers, and artificial intelligence.
