Jasmine Crockett Criticizes Democrats for Prioritizing White Voters

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett criticized the Democratic Party and the American political system during the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans. Speaking on Friday, Crockett asserted that the United States owes everything to Black women, citing their contributions to inventions and the creation of American democracy. She described Black women as the backbones of the Democratic Party, though she noted they are often the first targets of harm.

In an interview with The Root, Crockett accused the Democratic Party of prioritizing White voters over loyal Black constituents. She argued that the party has failed to address critical concerns regarding Black maternal mortality, job losses for Black women, and general political representation. Crockett urged the party to establish a baseline of essential values and called for more courage in responding to the current administration and the court system.

These remarks follow Crockett's failed Senate primary bid in March against Texas state Representative James Talarico. She is not seeking reelection to the House of Representatives.
