Amarnath Yatra Resumes After Six-Day Weather Suspension

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir resumed the Amarnath Yatra on July 26 following a six-day suspension that began on July 19. The administration had halted the pilgrimage after the India Meteorological Department issued warnings regarding heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions across the Union Territory.

Following the resumption, the 19th batch of pilgrims crossed Chanderkote in the Ramban district on Sunday morning. By Monday, July 27, the 20th batch of pilgrims also crossed Chanderkote under tight security while traveling toward the Holy Cave shrine in south Kashmir. Convoys departing from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu successfully passed through Udhampur to reach the Kashmir Valley.

Authorities currently permit travel exclusively via the Baltal route. The alternative Pahalgam route remains closed due to poor track conditions. The 57-day pilgrimage, which began on July 3, is scheduled to conclude on August 28.
