Amit Shah Inaugurates Barapullah Phase-3 Corridor in Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated four road infrastructure projects in New Delhi on September 29, 2026, with a total investment of ₹1,941 crore. The primary project, the Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor, creates a signal-free link between Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Sarai Kale Khan, extending the total corridor to approximately 9-10 kilometers. Officials estimate the project will reduce travel time from Noida and East Delhi to AIIMS from 40 minutes to 15 minutes.

Originally approved in 2014 for completion by 2017, the Barapullah project faced an 11-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, land acquisition, and environmental challenges regarding the Yamuna floodplain. These delays pushed the final cost from an initial ₹1,260 crore to approximately ₹1,635 crore. The corridor includes India's first flyover with a dedicated cycle track and utilizes 125-metre pillar spans to minimize environmental impact.

In addition to the corridor, Shah inaugurated the Mukarba Chowk underpass on the Outer Ring Road and laid foundation stones for two new flyovers in South Delhi, specifically the Savitri Cinema half flyover and a link from Modi Mill to Kalkaji. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attributed the completion of these stalled projects to cooperation between the central and local governments, while Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma noted that the government had met its commitment to finish the flyover within a year.
