US Army Awards Radiant $750 Million Microreactor Contract

The United States Army awarded Radiant a $750 million contract to provide 15 portable one-megawatt microreactors as part of the Janus program. The award accounts for approximately one-third of the total Janus budget and 75% of its reactor volume. Each unit is designed to power roughly 1,000 homes and can be transported by land, air, and sea.

Radiant secured the contract after competing against more than 40 companies in a selection process that included site visits and technical presentations. The Defense Innovation Unit provided leadership during the selection of these portable nuclear solutions. Radiant leadership stated that the technology aims to create a more resilient American energy grid by integrating generation and transmission directly at the customer site.

The company recently shipped a test reactor to the Idaho National Laboratory for several months of testing. The first delivery to a military base is scheduled for 2028.
