Author and journalist Garrison Lovely argues that companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing artificial general intelligence as a universal labor-replacing machine. Lovely contends that citizens should organize against the corporations building the technology rather than shaming individual AI users. He asserts that development should only resume once there is broad scientific consensus and public buy-in regarding the safety and controllability of the systems.
