Elon Musk Pitches Starlink to India Amid License Freeze

Elon Musk promoted Starlink Inc.'s satellite-based internet service as a critical tool for reaching underserved rural regions in India. The pitch follows a period of regulatory friction, as the Government of India has effectively frozen approvals for the service's commercial rollout since June.

Indian officials cited security concerns regarding the reliance on a US-based operator during geopolitical tensions. These concerns specifically followed reports of Starlink's deployment in Middle East conflicts. Musk argued that "Starlink would help the least served in India, especially in rural areas."

Despite the current freeze, Starlink has reapplied for a commercial license. The company is also seeking specific permission to implement direct-to-device connectivity within the country.
