Gretchen Whitmer Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Michigan Governor

Governor Gretchen Whitmer formally endorsed Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Wednesday, one day after Benson secured the Democratic nomination for governor. During a joint appearance, Whitmer and Benson urged Democratic voters to move past primary conflicts between progressives and centrists to unify the party before the November election.

Whitmer highlighted a motivated base, noting that Democratic primary turnout exceeded Republican turnout by over 500,000 voters. Benson is seeking to succeed a retiring governor of her own party and will face Republican Congressman John James in the general election.

The candidates' platform focuses on reducing costs, increasing wages, and protecting reproductive and workers' rights. Benson stated that the Democratic candidates' shared goals include growing the economy and fighting corruption.
