Chinese EV Brands Dominate Everything Electric Sydney 2026
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers showcase new models at the Everything Electric Sydney exhibition as battery electric vehicles reach 24.9 percent of Australia's new-vehicle market.
The Everything Electric Sydney 2026 exhibition opened on September 18 at Sydney Olympic Park, highlighting a surge in Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturers entering the Australian market. Brands including BYD, Chery, GAC, MG, GWM, and Zeekr displayed battery electric and plug-in hybrid models tailored to local climate conditions and driving habits.
Dan Caesar, CEO of Everything Electric, noted that shifting consumer focus toward running costs is driving adoption, stating that people are starting to understand that electric vehicles can work in Australia as well as anywhere else. This sentiment is supported by data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, which reports that battery electric vehicles accounted for 24.9 percent of the new-vehicle market in August, representing a 171 percent year-on-year increase.
Chinese manufacturers are now among the top 10 auto brands in Australia by sales. Executives from these firms emphasized that their growth is driven by more than just low costs. Lu Wen, CEO of Chery Motor Australia and New Zealand, argued that competitiveness depends on technology, design, and quality, while MG Australia and New Zealand and GAC International Australia continue to refine vehicle tuning and expand local dealer networks to better serve the region.
