Omar Abdullah Invites Firms to Establish GCCs in Jammu and Kashmir
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and regional leaders launched the J&K GCC Summit 2026 to attract global capability center investments to the Union Territory.
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu and the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), held the J&K Global Capability Centres (GCC) Summit 2026 on October 9 and 10. The event brought together over 300 participants to position the region as a credible Tier-2 and Tier-3 destination for global enterprises in technology, finance, and research.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, addressing the summit virtually from New Delhi, invited companies to establish GCCs to foster local employment and retain talent. Abdullah acknowledged a "perception problem" stemming from the last three decades but argued that current stability supports sustainable investment. He noted that while the region cannot immediately compete with hubs like Bengaluru, it can compete with cities such as Jaipur and Pune, stating that the region does not have to "reinvent the wheel" because it can learn from others.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo detailed a strategy to improve investor predictability through dedicated facilitation officers, strict approval timelines, and ready-to-occupy office spaces in Jammu and Srinagar. The administration aims to secure an anchor GCC to build market confidence, leveraging expanding infrastructure like the Chenab railway bridge. The initiative aligns with the 'Viksit Bharat' vision for 2047, seeking to connect regional institutions—including IIM Jammu, IIT Jammu, and AIIMS Jammu—with global industry requirements.
