Essex and Suffolk Water Urges Conservation to Avoid Hosepipe Ban
Essex and Suffolk Water is calling on south Essex residents to reduce consumption to prevent potential summer water restrictions.
Essex and Suffolk Water is urging customers in south Essex to reduce their water consumption to avoid the implementation of a hosepipe ban later this summer. The company cited dry weather, a significant increase in water demand, and low reserves at the Hanningfield reservoir as the primary reasons for the appeal.
Water director Kieran Ingram stated that early action could help reduce the likelihood of restrictions being needed later in the summer. The company is advising residents to fix leaking toilets, take shorter showers, and use watering cans instead of hoses. No formal restrictions are currently in place for the south Essex area.
This request follows the imposition of hosepipe bans in parts of north Essex and other counties by Anglian Water and Affinity Water. Those restrictions were triggered by three consecutive heatwaves and the second-driest spring on record. Residents violating the existing bans in those regions face fines of up to £1,000.
