Anthony Loke Resigns as Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook resigned as the party's Negeri Sembilan chairman on August 3, 2026. The decision follows his defeat in the August 1 state election, where he lost the Chennah seat he had held since 2013 to Barisan Nasional candidate Siow Kong Choon by a majority of 688 votes. The DAP also lost the Repah seat but retained nine others.

Loke described the resignation as a personal decision and noted it was the right time for new leadership after 22 years in the role. Although he initially considered resigning, he received unanimous support from the 18-member Negeri Sembilan DAP committee and Deputy Secretary-General Steven Sim, who urged him to remain in leadership to navigate future challenges. Loke maintained there was no external pressure for him to step down.

While exiting the state chairmanship, Loke retains his role as the national secretary-general with the unanimous backing of the party's central executive committee. He also announced that a motion will be tabled at the DAP national conference on August 16, allowing more than 4,000 delegates to vote on whether the party should remain in the government for the rest of the current parliamentary term.
