Pakistan Protests After Indian Guards Kill Two Civilians
Pakistan summoned India's Chargé d'Affaires after Indian border guards shot and killed two unarmed Pakistani civilians near the border in Punjab province.
The Government of Pakistan summoned India's Chargé d'Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday to protest the killing of two civilians by the Indian Border Security Force. The incident occurred Friday in the Bedian Sector of the Kasur district in Punjab province, where guards opened fire on three unarmed men from Ladhar village who had moved slightly beyond a border pillar.
Two men, identified as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, were killed and a third was wounded. Pakistan's Foreign Office described the force as "unprovoked and lethal," "wholly unjustified," and "grossly disproportionate." Islamabad rejected Indian claims that the men were "infiltrators" attempting to enter India, demanding a transparent investigation and legal action against those responsible.
The shooting follows a period of heightened tension between the nuclear-armed neighbors, including a recent dispute over India's claim to have killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander in Kashmir. This volatility persists after a severe military confrontation in April 2025, when an attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir triggered missile and drone strikes.
