Indian Ministry Briefs Parliamentary Committee on Iran Conflict

The Ministry of External Affairs of India briefed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Thursday regarding the conflict in Iran and associated regional instability. During the session, the foreign secretary addressed concerns from 17 committee members concerning geopolitics, energy security, the role of Pakistan, and potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Committee Chairperson Shashi Tharoor characterized the briefing as a constructive exercise and praised the performance of the Indian embassy in Tehran and diplomatic staff throughout the Gulf. While Tharoor acknowledged that the government had taken the committee into confidence, he emphasized that the specific details of the strategic discussions should remain confidential.

Parallel to these legislative briefings, the Ministry of External Affairs is monitoring the Gulf and West Asia regions to ensure the welfare of Indian citizens. The ministry has maintained operational control rooms and coordinated with Indian missions to manage the situation. Since February 28, approximately 1,010,000 passengers have traveled from the region to India via open airspace.
