Naples Airport Closes in November for Runway Upgrades
GESAC will close Naples Capodichino Airport for the entire month of November 2026 to perform extensive runway modernization and capacity upgrades.
Naples Capodichino Airport in Italy will close for the entire month of November 2026 to undergo extensive runway upgrades and modernization works. The project is designed to increase annual passenger capacity from 13 million to 17.3 million by 2035. Planned improvements include a second terminal for non-Schengen flights, new aircraft stands, a cargo area, and a hotel.
GESAC, the airport's management company, stated the closure is necessary for runway upgrades in compliance with industry regulations and safety standards. The shutdown affects major carriers, including Ryanair and easyJet, which operate flights from London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
Travelers are being redirected to the Salerno-Pontecagnano Airport during the closure. To support this transition, GESAC has established a shuttle bus service between Naples Piazza Garibaldi and the Salerno airport for a fee of €12 per person. The airport is scheduled to reopen on November 30.
