Lahore Deploys Anti-Smog Guns as AQI Surpasses 500
Punjab authorities deployed anti-smog guns and increased industrial enforcement in Lahore after the city became the most polluted globally with AQI levels exceeding 500.
The Government of Punjab deployed anti-smog guns and intensified enforcement measures in Lahore after the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) surpassed 500, making it the most polluted city in the world. Some neighborhoods, including Allama Iqbal Town, recorded hazardous AQI levels as high as 836.
To combat the toxic smog, the provincial administration is using water-spraying equipment across busy roads and industrial zones. Authorities are utilizing drone surveillance and night squads to monitor environmental violations. These efforts come as weak winds hinder the natural dispersal of pollutants, leading to a surge in respiratory illnesses among children and the elderly.
Recent enforcement actions included the inspection of 35 industrial establishments, resulting in Rs600,000 in fines. Officials also visited 66 brick kilns, sealing one facility and seizing 18 kilograms of non-compliant plastic materials.
