Nvidia Market Value Drops $400 Billion Amid AI Bubble Fears
Nvidia Corporation stock declined 6% in early 2026 as investors feared an AI bubble and hyperscalers shifted toward custom silicon chips.
Nvidia stock declined 6% in early 2026, erasing approximately $400 billion in market value. The sell-off occurred despite the company reporting strong financial performance, including a 62% year-over-year revenue increase in the third quarter of fiscal 2026.
Investor concerns regarding a potential AI bubble and the emergence of custom silicon have driven the decline. Hyperscalers, including Alphabet Inc. and Meta Platforms Incorporated, are collaborating with Broadcom Inc. to develop in-house chips to reduce their dependence on Nvidia. Simultaneously, Advanced Micro Devices is gaining ground in the GPU market.
Geopolitical tensions have added further instability. Tariffs and national security efforts implemented by the federal government of the United States under President Donald Trump have created unpredictability in the Chinese market, stalling growth in the region.
Despite these challenges, Nvidia Corporation maintains roughly 90% market share in data center chips through its Hopper, Blackwell, and Ruben architectures. The company continues to benefit from high switching costs associated with its proprietary CUDA software.
