Norwich Airport Faces Full Closure After Strike Diversions

Norwich Airport will close for 24 hours on August 28 following weekend flight diversions caused by air traffic control strikes over pay and leave.

Industrial action by air traffic control staff at Norwich Airport caused significant travel disruptions over the weekend of August 23-24, 2026. Three flights were diverted to Stansted Airport, leaving passengers with delays of up to six hours and requiring them to arrange their own transport back to Norfolk.

The disruptions stem from an ongoing dispute with the Prospect union, which is seeking a 10 percent pay increase to align with industry standards and improved parental leave. As a result of the continued conflict, the airport will be fully closed to all air traffic for 24 hours on Friday, August 28.

TUI UK&I has implemented preparations to minimize the impact on its customers. Airport officials have advised passengers to coordinate directly with their airlines for the most current flight information as the scheduled closure approaches.
