Sonos Launches AI Voice Assistant and OS Updates

Sonos is rolling out the Sonos 27 operating system and a cloud-based AI voice assistant to recover user trust following a failed 2024 app redesign.

Sonos is deploying a series of updates to its app and the Sonos 27 operating system to modernize its platform and regain user trust after a failed app redesign in 2024. The rollout includes a new Presets system, currently available in the United Kingdom and other regions, which allows users to save specific music, volume, and room configurations.

As part of a strategy led by CEO Tom Conrad, the company is introducing Sonos 27voice, a cloud-based AI voice assistant. The assistant supports natural language requests, such as identifying albums by cover art or answering general knowledge questions, while maintaining support for third-party agents including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Siri. While 27voice is cloud-based, the company will allow users to keep the local voice control model for privacy.

Early access for 27voice begins November 6 for English-speaking users in the United States, with some users receiving the update on November 12 via a request process in the Sonos app. A wider rollout is expected in early 2027. Additionally, Sonos will introduce a system-wide dashboard in November providing device health alerts and diagnostic tools for iOS users.
