Israeli Embassy Criticizes Australian Labor Party Draft Platform

The Embassy of Israel in Canberra issued a four-page statement criticizing the Australian Labor Party's draft 2026 national platform ahead of the party's 50th national conference in Adelaide. The embassy argued that the document is one-sided, claiming it risks placing responsibility for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Israel while providing insufficient attention to the conduct of Palestinian leadership and Hamas.

Specifically, Israeli representatives disputed the platform's focus on extremist settler violence, calling it a marginal phenomenon based on inaccurate statistics. The embassy also rejected the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, describing arrest warrants for Israeli leaders as legally unfounded. The Labor draft platform expands on a 2023 version, calling for an end to the occupation and illegal settlement activity, opposing the annexation of Palestinian territory, and supporting the International Criminal Court.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Anne Aly stated that the conference remains a process for the Labor Party to settle its own platform. Meanwhile, the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network accused the embassy of interfering in domestic political processes. This diplomatic friction occurs as the Australian federal government announced $25 million in aid for Gaza, allocated to the UN Horizon Fund and the World Bank's Palestinian Fund for Reconstruction and Development.
