eBay Cuts 1,100 Jobs to Streamline Growth Operations
eBay Inc. is reducing its workforce by approximately 9% to simplify operations and prioritize investment areas despite reaching record share prices.
eBay Inc. is cutting approximately 1,100 employees, representing about 9% of its workforce, to simplify operations and prioritize growth areas. This move follows a previous reduction of 800 jobs, or 6% of the workforce, in February 2026.
CEO Jamie Iannone announced the layoffs in a memo to staff, stating that the company's strategy is working and that the reductions are necessary to make "thoughtful choices about where we focus and invest." The workforce cuts come during a period of strong financial performance, with second-quarter revenue reaching $3.13 billion and company shares hitting record highs.
The restructuring follows a period of external pressure in May 2026, when the company rejected an unsolicited $56 billion takeover bid from GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen. eBay characterized the offer as neither credible nor attractive. Cohen's company, Gamelife Italia, currently holds the second largest position in eBay.
