Pargat Singh Takes Charge as Punjab Congress President

Pargat Singh assumed the presidency of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday, replacing Amrinder Singh Raja Warring ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.

Former Olympian and three-time MLA Pargat Singh officially took charge as the president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) during a ceremony at the Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh on Sunday. Singh replaces Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who led the state unit for more than four years. The leadership transition follows weeks of internal unrest as the party organizes for the 2027 assembly elections.

During his address, Singh vowed to prioritize the issues of Punjab and practice "clean politics," explicitly stating he would not indulge in "vendetta politics." He criticized the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government for allegedly using the bureaucracy as a tool. The ceremony was led by Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Sachin Pilot and attended by senior leaders including Charanjit Singh Channi and Partap Singh Bajwa.

Despite previous internal tensions and heavy rain, party leaders presented a united front. Warring attended the event to congratulate Singh, while Channi urged the party to move ahead unitedly to fight for farmers, laborers, and shopkeepers.
