Amanprit Arnold Launches DeafCity Hub Campaign in London

Amanprit Arnold launched the DeafCity Hub campaign to establish a permanent co-working and cultural center for the Deaf community in London. The project utilizes DeafSpace architectural principles, including circular seating and wide corridors, to optimize environments for visual and spatial communication.

In partnership with the Westminster City Council and the Oxford Street Development Corporation, the initiative secured a year-long temporary space in a building awaiting redevelopment. This incubator site allows the project to test its concept before seeking a permanent home and a developer partner.

Arnold, an urban planner and founder of Disability Urbanism, intends for the hub to serve as a national meeting place and a means of preserving Deaf culture. The effort revives the spirit of a failed 1986 proposal for an International Deaf Cultural Centre and aims to eventually expand into an international network of similar spaces.
