Apple to Launch First Touchscreen MacBook Pro in October
Apple plans to release a redesigned MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen, a lighter chassis, and M-series chips by late October or November 2026.
Apple is preparing to launch its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, with reports suggesting a release date on or around October 27, 2026. The redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch laptops will feature Tandem OLED displays and a Dynamic Island, replacing the current notch. While early reports indicated the chassis would be both thinner and lighter, later clarifications from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman state the device will be significantly lighter due to miniaturized internal components, but not noticeably thinner than current models.
The hardware will likely be powered by M5 or M6 series chips. To support the new touch capabilities, Apple is integrating gesture recognition tools into macOS 27.2 and macOS Golden Gate, including pinch-to-zoom, contextual menus, and specific recognizers for Photos, Notes, and Safari. These touch features are intended to complement, rather than replace, the traditional keyboard and trackpad.
The transition to OLED technology is expected to drive a price increase of up to 20%, with potential starting prices of $2,499 for the 14-inch model and $2,999 for the 16-inch model. This launch may coincide with a refreshed iPad mini. Separately, Apple has announced a Welcome home event for October 13 focused on smart home products, reportedly developed in partnership with LG Electronics.
