Osun First Lady Leads Protest Over Election Intimidation

First Lady of Osun State Titilola Adeleke led a group of women in a protest on Monday in Osogbo to demand a credible and peaceful governorship election scheduled for August 15. The protesters marched to the state police command headquarters to submit a petition to Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo, calling for an end to political violence and voter intimidation.

During the demonstration, Adeleke alleged that opposition elements were targeting Accord Party leaders for arrest. She specifically claimed that the Commissioner for Environment was subjected to degrading treatment, including being stripped naked, following an arrest the previous Friday.

Commissioner Samuel Etaifo responded by assuring the protesters that the police would maintain a peaceful atmosphere for the upcoming vote. He stated he was deployed by the Inspector-General of Police to stabilize the state and build public confidence among voters. While pledging that the command would restrategize to address the demands, Etaifo warned that actions causing tension would not be tolerated.
