UK Government Invests £130 Million in Zero-Emission Vehicle Tech

The Government of the United Kingdom announced nearly £130 million in funding on August 10 to accelerate the development of zero-emission vehicle technologies. The investment package combines approximately £65 million in public funds with an equal amount provided by the automotive industry.

Nearly £50 million of the total will be awarded to automotive firms and research partners to scale zero-emission technologies. An additional £17 million is allocated to nine specific projects focused on connected and automated mobility, including sensors, AI simulation, and brake-by-wire systems.

This funding supports a national mandate to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, with a requirement that all new cars be zero-emission by 2035. Industry Minister Blair McDougall stated that Britain is determined to ensure the next generation of vehicles are designed and built within the country.
