King Mohammed VI Outlines Industrial Strategy on 27th Throne Day

On July 30, 2026, Mohammed VI delivered a televised and radio address from the Royal palace in Tetouan to mark the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne. The King attributed Morocco's stability and economic progress to strategic direction and technological advancement, noting a growth rate of approximately 4.9% in 2025.

During the address, the monarch highlighted the kingdom's transition into an emerging economy, with a GDP that has grown more than fourfold since 1999 to approximately $190 billion. He pointed to specific industrial achievements, including the Tanger Med port, Africa's first high-speed rail line, and the nation's position as Africa's leading car exporter. Other key developments include a new electric-vehicle battery gigafactory in Kenitra, advancements in aviation, and the "Morocco Offer" for green hydrogen.

Looking toward the future, the King emphasized the pursuit of strategic self-sufficiency in pharmaceuticals, defense, cybersecurity, and food. He also referenced a $25 billion gas pipeline project with Nigeria and a target of 52% renewable energy capacity by 2030. Mohammed VI announced that a new development cycle will begin following the upcoming legislative elections and the formation of a new government to further consolidate these national gains.
