FASB and ASBJ Hold 36th Bilateral Accounting Meeting

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Accounting Standards Board of Japan (ASBJ) conducted their 36th bilateral meeting in Norwalk, Connecticut, on August 5, 2026. The session focused on advancing cooperation regarding global accounting standards through the exchange of updates on standard-setting activities.
Representatives from both organizations discussed technical topics of mutual interest, with specific emphasis on financial instruments and business combinations. FASB chair Richard R. Jones and ASBJ chair Yasunobu Kawanishi described the talks as productive and constructive, noting that the exchange helped deepen their understanding of complex technical issues.
The two bodies plan to maintain regular communication to align their respective agendas. The next bilateral meeting is scheduled to take place in Tokyo during the first half of 2027.
