Apple CEO John Ternus Overhauls Structure and Plans Product Blitz

Apple CEO John Ternus is restructuring the company for efficiency while preparing two October events to launch smart home devices and touchscreen MacBooks.

Apple CEO John Ternus is overhauling the company's internal structure to prioritize design and engineering efficiency. Ternus has implemented targeted layoffs in the hardware engineering department, specifically removing layers of engineering program managers to create a leaner organization. He is also integrating the industrial and human interface design teams under his direct oversight.

The company is preparing two major product launches in October. An online home event on October 13 will introduce a smart home hub with a display, a refreshed HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV set-top box, alongside a partnership with LG Electronics for smart home security devices. A second event on or around October 27 will debut the first touchscreen MacBook Pro featuring OLED displays and Dynamic Island interfaces, as well as an updated iPad Mini with a landscape-oriented front camera.

These moves come as Apple reviews the future of the Vision Pro, testing lighter and cheaper variants under the codename N224. This strategic review follows Meta Platforms Incorporated's reveal of lightweight VR glasses weighing 100g, priced at $1,299 and slated for a 2027 release, which are viewed as a direct threat to Apple's spatial computing hardware.
