Cory Booker Wins Third Full Term in New Jersey Senate Race
Senator Cory Booker defeated Republican challenger Justin Murphy to secure a third full term in the U.S. Senate during the November 3, 2026, midterm elections.
Democratic Senator Cory Booker won re-election to a third full term in the U.S. Senate representing New Jersey on November 3, 2026. The Associated Press called the race shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. ET, with initial figures showing Booker holding 79% of the vote compared to 21% for his opponent.
Booker, a former mayor of Newark who has served in the Senate since 2013, campaigned on middle-class tax relief, rolling back tariffs, and increasing congressional oversight of the Trump administration's war powers in Iran. He is recognized for his work on criminal-justice reform and for delivering the longest continuous speech in Senate history in April 2025 to protest federal spending cuts.
Republican challenger Justin Murphy, a Burlington County attorney, veteran, and former Tabernacle Deputy Mayor, ran on an America First platform. His campaign focused on affordability, tax cuts, southern border security, domestic energy production, and pro-life policies. Murphy did not receive an endorsement from President Donald Trump.
In concurrent New Jersey U.S. House races, Democrats maintained a strong lead by winning nine seats. Other regional contests included a competitive race in Pennsylvania's 1st District between Republican Brian Fitzpatrick and Democrat Bob Harvie, and a New Jersey House race where Democrat Zack Mullock took an early lead over Republican Jeff Van Drew.
