Telesat and Cailabs Partner for Optical Space Connectivity
Telesat Government Solutions and Cailabs US, Inc. signed a collaboration agreement to develop secure optical space-to-ground connectivity for U.S. and Allied missions.
Telesat Government Solutions and Cailabs US, Inc. signed a strategic collaboration agreement on September 1, 2026, to develop secure, high-capacity optical space-to-ground connectivity for U.S. Government and Allied missions. The partnership integrates the optical inter-satellite links of the Telesat Lightspeed low Earth orbit network with the production-ready optical ground systems developed by Cailabs.
The combined architecture utilizes a space-based mesh network and atmospheric turbulence compensation technology to ensure resilient communications in contested environments. The companies intend to conduct joint studies and demonstrations to pursue government opportunities, specifically focusing on space data relay services.
To support scalable rollouts, Cailabs is expanding its industrial capacity with a goal of producing up to 50 optical ground stations annually. Executives from both firms stated the collaboration provides a credible path to operational services and differentiated solutions for sovereign connectivity requirements.
