Malaysia Records RM10.8 Billion Current Account Surplus in Q2 2026
The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported a RM10.8 billion current account surplus for the second quarter of 2026, driven by strong goods exports.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported that the country's current account balance recorded a surplus of RM10.8 billion, or approximately 2.64 billion U.S. dollars, in the second quarter of 2026.
A substantial goods surplus of RM40.7 billion drove the overall result. This growth was fueled by strong demand for electrical and electronic products, machinery, equipment, and petroleum products, with primary demand coming from the United States, Singapore, and China.
This export strength offset a decline in the services account, which shifted from a RM6.4 billion surplus in the first quarter to a RM0.7 billion deficit in the second. Investment activity included a net inflow of RM7.4 billion in foreign direct investment and a moderated net outflow of RM7.0 billion for direct investment abroad.
As of the end of June 2026, Malaysia maintained international reserves of RM537.0 billion and a net international investment position of RM68.3 billion.
