UAE and Canada Conclude Record-Fast Trade Partnership Agreement
The United Arab Emirates and Canada concluded negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on July 25, 2026, marking the fastest trade deal in Canadian history.
The United Arab Emirates and Canada concluded negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on July 25, 2026. Announced by UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, the deal is the fastest trade negotiation ever completed by both nations.
The agreement seeks to reduce tariffs, remove bureaucratic obstacles, and expand market access in several priority sectors. Key areas of focus include clean energy, advanced technology, data centers, aerospace, agri-food, and critical minerals. Additionally, the partnership supports investments in mines, ports, and LNG facilities.
This economic move follows a period of significant growth, with bilateral trade reaching approximately US$4.2 billion in 2025, a 21% increase from the previous year. The CEPA complements the existing Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA). The deal now awaits formal ratification before it officially enters into force.
