Ontario Newsrooms Seek Public Ideas to Boost Voter Turnout
Newsrooms in Muskoka, North Bay Nipissing, and Parry Sound are soliciting community suggestions to combat declining voter participation in Ontario municipal elections.
Newsrooms in Muskoka Region, North Bay Nipissing, and Parry Sound have launched a public initiative requesting suggestions to increase voter turnout in Ontario municipal elections. The call for ideas comes in response to a 2025 report by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, which found that voter participation in 2022 dropped to 33 percent, a significant decline from the 44 percent turnout recorded in the 1990s.
Managed by Metroland Media Group, the regional news organizations are seeking community submissions of 100 words or less to address voter apathy and strengthen municipal democracy. The public has until August 4 to submit their proposals.
