Qatar Leads Diplomatic Push to De-escalate Regional Tensions

The Government of Qatar conducted a series of high-level diplomatic calls on July 26, 2026, aimed at reducing Middle East tensions and enhancing regional security. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held separate conversations with UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud. During these discussions, Sheikh Mohammed advocated for adherence to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, specifically emphasizing the need to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Simultaneously, Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani spoke with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The leaders discussed strategic bilateral cooperation and regional developments in the Gaza Strip. The British Prime Minister used the call to offer condolences for the death of the late Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Across these engagements, Qatari leadership reiterated its support for a comprehensive accord to achieve enduring peace. Both the UK and UAE officials joined Qatar in emphasizing dialogue and diplomatic channels as the primary means to prevent further escalation in the region.
