Pro-Russian Hackers Launch Major Cyberattack on Norwegian Government

The pro-Russian hacker group Server Killers claimed responsibility for a major cyberattack against Norwegian government digital services that began on Monday. Using denial-of-service tactics, the group flooded the Norwegian Digitalization Agency with traffic to block public services, including a unified login system.

Are Kvistad of the Norwegian Digitalization Agency described the event as the largest attack the agency has ever experienced, though he noted that services remained operational practically all the time.

The hackers declared a cyber war on Norway following the country's renewal of security cooperation with Ukraine on August 23. This escalation follows an announcement by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre that Norway will provide 85 billion Norwegian crowns, approximately 9.2 billion US dollars, to Ukraine from next year's budget, alongside commitments to cooperate on drone technology and modern warfare.
