Hasan Piker Sues Scott Jennings for $72.5 Million Over Defamation

Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN commentator Scott Jennings for allegedly using manipulated video to falsely claim Piker advocated for lynching Black Americans.

Twitch streamer Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit on Tuesday in a Washington, D.C. federal court against CNN commentator Scott Jennings. Piker is seeking $72.5 million in total damages, including $27.5 million in compensatory and $45 million in punitive damages, for reputational and professional injuries.

The lawsuit centers on an August 11 episode of "The Scott Jennings Show" and subsequent social media posts. Piker alleges that Jennings used a manipulated clip from an October 2024 broadcast, removing the phrase "He said" to falsely suggest Piker advocated for the lynching of Black Americans. Piker's legal team argues the original footage showed him sarcastically mocking a conservative commentator's views on racism.

The edited video reached approximately 2.7 million views on X and was circulated by the National Republican Senatorial Committee to criticize Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed due to his association with Piker. Piker previously attempted to have Jennings retract the statements in late August before filing the suit. A review by the fact-checking site Snopes concluded that Jennings' claims were incorrect.
