Oman and Pakistan Expand Trade and Security Cooperation

Oman and Pakistan agreed to expand bilateral trade and energy cooperation during a joint ministerial commission session in Islamabad.

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi of Oman and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan met in Islamabad on Wednesday for the eighth Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission session. During the meeting, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi praised the efforts of Pakistan to promote regional peace and its specific role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.

The two leaders reaffirmed a shared commitment to regional stability, emphasizing that diplomacy, restraint, and de-escalation are necessary to resolve disputes.

In addition to security concerns, the two nations agreed to broaden bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including energy, logistics, food security, trade, investment, and tourism. To implement these goals, they will create joint working groups for oil, gas, and agriculture, and organize a business-to-business investment forum in Pakistan. The ministers also planned agreements to provide visa exemptions for official and diplomatic passport holders. The commission is scheduled to hold its ninth session in Oman next year.
