Taiwan Defense Ministry Warns of Unpredictable Chinese Military Threat

The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan released an annual review stating that China is tightening control over the air and sea surrounding the island. The report describes Beijing as increasingly unpredictable, attributing this shift to an unprecedented purge of senior military officers within the Chinese military.

According to the review, Beijing is analyzing recent global conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict, to integrate drone tactics and identify vulnerabilities in U.S. military logistics, industrial mobilization, and allied cooperation. The ministry noted that the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict specifically highlighted issues such as rapid ammunition consumption and the fragility of allied cooperation.

While the report concludes that China currently lacks the capability to execute a full amphibious assault, it warns that Beijing is utilizing combat readiness patrols and joint blockade exercises to encircle Taiwan. These actions are intended to cut off external transportation routes and prepare for the destruction of Taiwan's air defense and command-and-control systems during the early stages of a potential conflict. The Ministry of National Defence of China declined to comment on the findings.
