China NEV Penetration Hits Record 65.1 Percent in July
China's new energy vehicle penetration reached a record 65.1 percent of passenger car retail sales in July, despite a slight dip in year-on-year retail volume.
The China Passenger Car Association reported that new energy vehicle (NEV) penetration reached a record high of 65.1 percent of total passenger car retail sales in July. This represents a year-on-year increase of 11.6 percentage points and a month-on-month growth of 2.1 percentage points.
Adoption rates varied sharply across market segments. Domestic brands saw a penetration rate of 83.8 percent, while luxury vehicles lagged significantly at 30.9 percent.
Despite the record penetration rate, retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles fell 3.9 percent year-on-year to 951,000 units in July. Conversely, production surged 25.6 percent year-on-year to 1.45 million units. For the first seven months of the year, cumulative retail sales reached 5.67 million units, while cumulative output rose 7.9 percent year-on-year to 8.21 million units.
