60,000 People Join Historic Walk with Israel in Toronto

The UJA Federation of Greater Toronto organized a record-breaking solidarity march that raised over 670,000 Canadian dollars despite counter-protests and six police arrests.

Approximately 60,000 people participated in the 57th annual Walk with Israel in Toronto on Sunday, marking the largest turnout in the event's history. Organized by the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Federation of Greater Toronto, the march proceeded from Temple Sinai Congregation down Bathurst Street to demonstrate solidarity with Israel and address rising antisemitism in Canada. The event raised more than 670,000 Canadian dollars for individuals impacted by the war in Israel.

Law enforcement maintained a heavy presence to manage the event and concurrent Walk Against Israel counter-protests near Earl Bales Park. The Toronto Police Service arrested six individuals for offenses including assaulting or obstructing peace officers, breach of the peace, and the illegal operation of a drone. Some altercations occurred at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West, a known site for anti-Israel demonstrations.

The march drew a wide range of political figures, including Conservative Party deputy leader Melissa Lantsman and Member of Parliament Vince Gasparro. Holocaust survivor Nate Leipciger opened the event by cutting the ribbon, while UJA leadership characterized the record attendance as a response to increased hate directed at the Jewish community and a demonstration of resilience and unity.
