Andreessen Horowitz Rebrands Crypto Fund to a16z Frontier
Andreessen Horowitz rebranded its a16z Crypto fund to a16z Frontier to expand investments into artificial intelligence and robotics.
Andreessen Horowitz rebranded its blockchain-focused fund, a16z Crypto, to a16z Frontier on Thursday. The firm is expanding the scope of the $2.2 billion fund, originally announced in May, to include investments in artificial intelligence, robotics, and other emerging technologies while continuing to support crypto startups and regulatory advocacy.
Managing partner Chris Dixon will lead the fund alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Eddy Lazzarin, and Guy Wuollet. Dixon stated that the crypto label matters less as blockchain technology becomes more integrated into various business models. This shift mirrors similar expansions by other venture firms, including Paradigm, which expanded its $1.2 billion fund to include AI and robotics, and Haun Ventures, which increased its focus on the agentic economy and emerging payments.
In a separate personnel move, general partner Ali Yahya has reportedly informed investors of his intention to leave the firm to launch his own startup.
