Apple Releases Security Patches for iOS and macOS

Apple released a series of software updates on September 28, 2026, to address security vulnerabilities and stability issues across its device ecosystem. The company launched iOS 27.0.1 to fix a critical bug that caused touchscreens to become unresponsive when users opened the Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously.

This update also resolves unexpected restarts on iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models during Face ID authentication failures and corrects a color artifact issue in 2x photos. For users remaining on older software, the company released iOS 26.7.1 to patch a CoreGraphics vulnerability, identified as CVE-2026-86950, which could allow arbitrary code execution via a maliciously crafted file.

Apple noted that the CoreGraphics vulnerability may have been exploited in sophisticated attacks against targeted individuals. The company also deployed accompanying bug-fix updates for iPadOS 27.0.1, macOS 27.0.1, and watchOS 27.0.1.
